This session presents a scalable, innovative model for a faculty training series that integrates an international, on-site pedagogical research workshop with quarter-long curriculum design activities, culminating in end-of-year reflections for both faculty and students. We will highlight a successful case study from this initiative: the “Shan Shui in Chinese Culture: International Teaching Workshop,” facilitated jointly by the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, China, and Bellevue College in Washington. This session reflects the ongoing partnership between the two institutions, building upon earlier collaborative research into instructor-initiated in situ learning within 360-degree immersive cultural spaces, which was presented at last year’s NW eLearning Conference. Attendees will receive a copy of the end-of-year project report of the workshop.
The presentation will also outline the long-term vision for this international faculty training series. We will explore its direct applications for Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), the publication of Open Educational Resources (OER), and the broader goal of internationalizing home-campus curricula. Ultimately, attendees will learn how this collaborative framework delivers global learning experiences comparable to traditional in-person study abroad programs, but with a significantly lower budget impact to the college budget.
